Installation of Radiant Heat System Components
The Control Unit is hung between two wall studs and is mounted
to the back plate, which is included in the rough-in kit (see the How It Works
section). Cold lead is then attached to the Transformer, which is
inside the Control Box, and is run to the start of the Zmesh or Tuff Cable.
The Cold Lead is then spliced directly to the Tuff Cable or to a transition plate, which is soldered to the Zmesh (see the transition plate image to the right).
One Control Unit is needed for each system (zone). A single Zmesh zone will cover and area between 10 and 740 sq. ft.,
and a single Tuff Cable zone will cover and area between 10 and 485 sq. ft..
Zmesh is an excellent product for heating your entire home or for simply heating your floors. Zmesh is
a 12 inch wide bronze mesh similar to screen door material and comes in 50 to 350 foot rolls (in 50 ft. increments).
This unique radiant heat product can be installed
under any floor surface. Zmesh is secured to wood sub floors with staples and to concrete with glue. Because
of it's low profile, there is practically no floor build up when using Zmesh. Zmesh can be installed under tile floors, hardwood floors, and carpet.
Tuff Cable is also a great radiant heat product. Tuff Cable is a 10 gauge (slightly less than a 1/4 inch in diameter)
insulated copper cable that be installed under tile, slate, and marble. Tuff Cable comes in 100 to 1000 foot rolls (in 100 ft. increments)
and is generally spaced at 6 inches. The cable is secured to the sub floor with foil tape or plastic hooks. The cable
simply needs to be completely covered in mortar, then the tile or other material is installed as normal. tuff Cable is ideal for heating larger tiled floor areas.
The installation of our radiant heat systems is fairly easy compared to other
radiant heat systems. Any electrician would not have any trouble installing the system.
Any contractor could install the system, and then have an electrician hook up the power
to the system. Technical support is available 5 days a week, and the installation manual, and
system diagrams are available online.
